Doune Castle
view from Doune Castle
Doune castle is 14th century castle located next to where the Ardoch burn flows in the River Teith in central Scotland. The castle is a medieval stronghold located close to the village of Doune.
Doune castle is great place to visit. It was built as the home for the Regent of Albany, ‘Scotland’s uncrowned King’.
The castle has been used in many tv and film productions over the years. The castle was used as Winterfell in the first series of Game of Thrones. It was also the filming location for the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. More recently it was used in the outlander series as Castle Leoch. Doune castle really is famous both in actual history and in fiction.
Therefore, whether your a history buff or fan of one of the shows or films the castle featured in there really is something for everyone.
Your entrance fee includes an audio guide. Learn about the castle and Monty Python from one of the stars of the series Terry Jones. Then listen to Sam Heughan talking about the filming of Outlander. You can listen on your own phone or audio devices are available.
