Belgium is small country and its actually one of the smallest countries in Europe it is also part of the EU. However despite being small it still has plenty to offer and you will be sure to find lots of things you like to see and do. Getting there
Eurostar and Trains
There are Eurostar trains from Amsterdam, Paris and London to and from Brussels. As well as the Eurostar there is a great train service from many European countries to and from Belgium including Luxembourg and Germany. As well as a fast and reliable train services within Belgium itself.
Airports in Belgium
As well a great train service Belgium also has 5 passenger airports Brussels-Zaventem, Deurn, Liege, Ostend, and Charleroi. However as most of you will know if you have read my other posts I dont do planes so Im not sure of what sort of services they offer.
Getting Around
Trains, trams and buses
As well as international train service here is also an extensive public transport system within Belgium . Trains are run by the SNCB company and they offer various regional trains so you can base yourself in one place and visit several others for example there are several places that you can visit on day visit from Brussels such a Ghent or Bruges.
There are extensive tram services throughout the country.
There are three bus companies De Lijn (in Dutch), TEC and STIB. De Lijn is responsible for the Flanders network, while TEC handles bus travel in Wallonia. The STIB buses cover the Brussels metropolitan area.
Places to visit
Brussels the Belgium capital
Brussels is the capital of Belgium and is a great place to base yourself to visit other places around the country. It is also where you will find the beautiful grand place, the world famous Manneken Pis fountain and the Atomium to name just a few of the great things you can see in this wonderful city. Ghent don’t miss the wonderful castle, churches and cathedral
Ghent is another beautiful place to visit with many beautiful churches, a bell tower and a cathedral as well as the Gravensteen castle. For more information on this wonderful city see my Ghent guide.
Bruges
Bruges is the capital of the area known as West Flanders and it is located in North west Belgium. It has beautiful canals, cobbled streets and medieval building. Its easily accessible by train from other areas of the country for example Brussels or Antwerp.
